Here is an important article that got missed in the Smoke Signals
Posted on May 16th, 2012
From my beginning with MCTA and even from the beginning of my living in Menominee County, the word that was used time and time again was "unique".   It was used by politicians, lobbyists and attorneys when they heard of the set up of Menominee County and the Menominee Reservation, and both forms of County and Tribal Government.  For years I objected to that adjective but have realized that is does describe the situation here, and have reluctantly accepted it.

MCTA is also unique, our Mission is to represent our members who are property owners and Taxpayers in this County, but because they are not full time residents, few of them are able to vote here, or take part in local government and events.  Your MCTA Board and Management team are your eyes and ears at County Board Meetings, School Board meetings and association with members of our community.

The Menominee Tribe Contributes to This Year's NCAA Tournament
Posted on Apr 3rd, 2012
While March Madness may have come to a close, the Legend Lake community should take pride that our Menominee neighbors made an important contribution to this year’s festivities.  The Menominee Tribe’s lumber industry has an impressive history that continues on yet today.  A recent article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel highlighted the fact that the wood planks that were used for this year’s competition in New Orleans came from Menominee County, Wisconsin.  The Menominee Tribe itself is proud of the role it played saying this “For the Menominee, it's a source of pride that the games will be played on lumber cut in their mill from trees harvested from their forest.” Click here for the full article --  http://www.jsonline

Warden Wire: Wildfire season is here: Caution urged, burn permits required
Posted on Mar 19th, 2012

Below is an article from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources -- Warden Wire: Wildfire season is here: Caution urged, burn permits required

The snow is gone. The calendar says spring comes Tuesday but the temperatures say summer. Well, forget the calendar. It's wildfire season.

Recent strong winds already have contributed to about 70 wildfires that torched about 100 acres in southern and central areas. Roughly two-thirds of the state is under a high risk for wildfires today. That means a fire could start from a match or a spark and spread a lot faster than you could control it.

A Great way to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day
Posted on Mar 6th, 2012
Are you looking for a something to break the late winter blues?  Maybe a little green will help.  No we're not talking money, but a celebration of St. Patrick's Day.  A few miles down the road from my year round house (me being the wed admin) and only about 45 minutes from my lake house on Legend Lake is a great St. Patrick's Day festival in the city of "New Dublin" as the city of New London renames itself.  Just drive south to Shawano, keep going on highway 22 on through Clintonville and catch highway 45 into New London.

There are activities all week long staring on March 12 but on Saturday March 17 there will be a parade and other festivities that many will enjoy.
